History

Koshki (კოშკი) means tower. Stone defensive towers stand across the Georgian highlands: in Svaneti most families had one, and in Tusheti and Khevsureti whole villages, such as Dartlo and Shatili, were built as clusters of towers.

A tower was entered by a door high above the ground and had several floors linked by ladders, so a family could hold out until a raid had passed.
