History
Georgia is one of the oldest wine-making lands in the world: traces of wine in clay jars found south of Tbilisi are about 8,000 years old.
Kakheti, in the Alazani valley, is Georgia's main wine region. Wine ages in qvevri, large clay jars buried in the floor of the marani, the wine cellar. UNESCO lists the qvevri method as intangible cultural heritage.
